Baseball
Fred has been following baseball, and the Atlanta Braves in particular, since he was six years old. His love for the game combines with his interest in the human figure in these pieces. They are usually produced quickly, sometimes while he's listening to a game on the radio.
Rapid pen marks capture the movement of the players, and indeed pen and ink seems the ideal medium for these drawings. Sports are in the moment. Mistakes can’t be erased. And since Fred never erases, but lets marks stand as they are put down, these works perfectly capture the beautiful ephemera of a game.
