Call for Artists – “Only in Cleveland” at Moss Rose Art – April 9 – May 14, 2022
Moss Rose Art, a recently opened gallery at 243 Inman St. in Cleveland, TN, is inviting submissions for a juried group art show as part of the first annual Hot Slaw and Art Y’all festival in Cleveland, a unique celebration of local food and art. Hot slaw is a favorite dish here, but it’s not familiar to many outside Cleveland. The festival will celebrate our community’s hot slaw heritage on April 9 in in downtown Cleveland from 12 – 9 p.m. The event will stretch from the Courthouse Square to First Street Square and will end with the showing of an outdoor movie as a tribute to the Star-Vue Drive-in, the hot slaw hub of yesteryear.
Moss Rose Art, located on First Street Square, will showcase the work of Cleveland’s artistic community at the festival. Our new juried exhibition, “Only in Cleveland,” will open the day of the festival. We are inviting artists to submit work in any medium that provides a window on people, places, and things unique to Cleveland – ideally, things you can’t find anywhere else. We’re especially interested in artwork that features local buildings, landscapes, scenes, or people that are specific to this place (like the old Star Vue!) We also welcome work that is more personal, that shows how you feel about the area and conveys your emotional relationship to this place.
Please email submissions to Moss Rose Art at jamimoss@gmail.com. We won’t be taking in-person submissions for this event, but you can contact us via email at jamimoss@gmail.com or text (404-314-2319) with questions. You may send up to three images - attach as a jpg or png file to your email. Along with the images, please include the following:
Your name
Title, medium, and size of each work, and why it’s appropriate for the “Only in Cleveland” theme
Your artist’s biography (no more than 250 words, please)
Price range (we can help you figure out final pricing if you are accepted)
The gallery will receive 35% of the proceeds from the sale of each work and the artist will receive 65%. There is no charge to apply. Please understand that space is limited and any decision not to exhibit certain work is not necessarily a judgment on quality or ability. We want to create an experience where a wide range of works will speak to each other, and not every piece may be appropriate.
